Welcome

Uganda Medical Laboratory Technology Professionals Association (UMLTA) is a non-profit professional membership organization registered with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau as a company limited by guarantee without share capital. Its membership consists of all medical laboratory professionals practicing laboratory medicine in both public and private sectors in the Republic of Uganda.

UMLTA was formed on 10th November 1968 after realization of the necessity for the existence of an association by Medical Laboratory professionals in order for them to make foot prints in the health sector. Since then, the association has grown in numbers and scope. To date, UMLTA has grown so immensely and includes all the medical laboratory professionals with different qualifications from certificate to PhD holders.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

TRAINNING

  • Electrical technician course. 1991-1993.

  • Uganda technical college- LIRA.

Medical laboratory training.

  • Nsambya Medical laboratory training school.

  • Certificate in medical laboratory techniques. Completed in 2000.

  • Diploma in medical laboratory technology. 2010

  • Higher diploma in clinical instruction. 2025-2026. Health tutors college Mulago.

  • Served as Guild president of the same school in 1999-2000.

WORK

  • Joined central government.

  • Kabale RRH 2005-2006.

  • LIRA RRH 2006-2013.

  • Local Government.(Lira City Council) 2013 - to date.

  • Duty station: ANYANGATIR HC III.

LABORATORY ANTHEM.

  • Writing and production. 2016- 2019 with support from Lira Institute Of Health and Management Sciences.

  • Launch of the Anthem.

  • Adopted during the Annual scientific conference held at LESLONA HOTEL in MOROTO 2019

  • Was elected Northern Uganda representative in the same meeting 2019-2021.

Mandate

Only Association mandated to conduct Continuous Professional Development of Laboratory workers in Uganda

Key Objectives

Objective A

To network all Medical Laboratory Professionals in Uganda as platform for professional discussions and capacity development.

Objective B

To establish, promote and maintain a high standard of professionalism of members Association and the professional skills and reputation of the members in order to provide quality laboratory services.

Objective C

To develop a strong network with the government, public and private sectors to ensure members welfare and the delivery of quality laboratory services.

Objective D

To conduct operational research and publish literature that inform decisions in laboratory services.

Objective E

To work with the Allied Health Professionals’ Council and other Regulatory authorities to protect the integrity of the Medical Laboratory profession and the interest of the community.

Objective F

To act in an advisory capacity on matters related to Medical Laboratory Technology in Uganda.
